A new Starbucks is soon to open at the former Bank of America on Main Street. It is unknown whether the drive-thru will be used or how this new opening will affect the Starbucks at Giant just a minute away.

The store will employ approximately 25 workers, or “partners,” as the company stated. According to Avon Codner, Vice President of South Whitehall Township’s James Balliet Property Group, the shop may open in September but specific dates and specifications are merely speculation.

Further speculation includes the idea of outdoor seating and a drive-thru window. The outside of the building is expected to remain relatively similar because construction will not be able to occur until a Highway Occupancy Permit is obtained.

The shop is planning to be open from 6am to 9pm daily, which leads many to believe this will be an issue for traffic.

In a Hellertown Planning Commission meeting streamed on Facebook Live, it was stated that “the traffic estimate for this use versus the bank is an additional 2,000 trips per day.”

“The commission was very concerned with the traffic backing up onto Main Street like is happening with a similar business in town,” read the minutes of the meeting.

Nearby locations include the Starbucks on East Third Street in South Bethlehem, one at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley in Upper Saucon Township, and the kiosk located at the Giant less than half a mile away.
