One of the main points of a yearbook is so our classmates and teachers can sign them as we move on to the next grade or on to the real world. When we get older, we’re going to want to reminisce and remember who was in our grade, remember our teachers and just be able to look back on high school memories.
Our school should bring back yearbook signing. It was always a good time in middle school when we would have a full class period at the end of the year to go around and have our peers sign our yearbooks. We pay so much money for a book that has empty pages meant for signing, so it’s a waste of money and trees if nobody can sign them. It is a fun way to interact with others, have fun at school, and create memories with the people we spent the last 13 years with.
“We pay so much money for these yearbooks that still have designated pages for that exact purpose. People don’t have many ways to remember [other students] personally, so we need that opportunity back. I think that it’s a huge waste of paper if it’s there for almost no reason. [Maybe people don’t sign yearbooks] because we can’t even get them on time. There is no yearbook class anymore, and we have been getting them after the year ends [for the past two years]. I think [Saucon] could put more effort and time toward getting the yearbooks to kids on time so they have the opportunity to sign them,” said senior Jerzie Phillips.
Jazmine Kozero, a teacher, stated, “[Yearbook signing] is a great memory for the kids to look back on later in their lives. It is a waste of money to pay for all of those empty pages if we are not going to use them. We don’t offer yearbook signing anymore because the yearbook comes after the school year is already over. Maybe the school will consider bringing yearbook signing back if enough students voice their opinions.”
