In the beginning of October, Saucon Valley High School held its annual homecoming week. There were many activities and events that led up to the homecoming football game against our known rival, Southern Lehigh, and then the dance the following day.
Leading up to the dance, the 2023 Homecoming Court was selected consisting of the boys: Prince Aris, Oliver Blachnio, Constantine Donahue, Henry Kreschollek, Jeffery Holzbaur, Ray Matey, and Keith Morris. Next were the girls: Katherine Dalessio, Kylah Ferguson, Ava Kriner, Amya Rivera-Soto, Paige Rosenberger, Ashley Rostkowski, and Izzy Zellers.
On Thursday, October 5, a handful of the seniors got together to build a bonfire for the community pep rally that would occur that evening. At this pep rally, all of the fall teams’ seniors were recognized, as well as the Homecoming Court. After this, the Homecoming King was announced, Prince Aris. To conclude the evening, the bonfire built earlier that day was lit, surrounded by the community.
“Being made Homecoming King gave me a really good feeling. I appreciate everyone who voted for me,” said senior and Homecoming King, Prince Aris
In Saucon Valley High School, there was spirit week. All throughout the week, students and some teachers dressed according to a theme every day. The week was concluded by a pep rally on Friday where students played games, won gift cards, had teams and the Homecoming Court announced, and was concluded by the football cheerleader dance.
Finally, on Friday evening, the Saucon Valley Panthers faced the school’s rival team, the Southern Lehigh Spartans. At halftime, the Spartans were leading 21-0, and while the Panthers were strategizing a comeback in the locker room, the Homecoming Queen was announced, Izzy Zellers. Unfortunately the Panthers lost 48-0, but spirits were still high because of the upcoming dance on Saturday.
“To me, it didn’t really matter who won, the experience of being on Homecoming Court was so, so fun! However, I got to have my Taylor Swift long live moment and I’ll remember it forever,” said senior and Homecoming Queen, Isabelle Zellers.
Homecoming Week was concluded by the moment everyone had been waiting for, the Homecoming Dance. At 7, most of the students and some teachers went to the school in carefully picked attire, took many pictures, and enjoyed the DJ who played a large variety of music.
“ I really enjoyed Homecoming. I agreed with the Court picks and I thought the DJ was much better than last year and that’s my prerogative,” said senior Elizabeth Miller.
As a whole, many students agreed that the 2023 Homecoming Dance was better than last year, and that it was more enjoyable overall.
