If you stay up to date on trends at Saucon, you probably heard of the Threads app, established by Mark Zuckerberg. Did students download the app for the content, or just to hop on the bandwagon?
In accordance with USAToday.com, the app has lost 80% of its original users due to unmet expectations, so much so that after just 2 weeks, the 150 million download mark was hit. However, individual interactions plummeted from 49 million to 23.6 million.
“I heard of the Threads app almost as soon as it came out, and I downloaded it too. I don’t use it anymore since X [formerly known as Twitter] is already successful,” said senior Kimberly Moser.
Moser, like most others who downloaded the app, discovered that the app is not enthralling, and she doesn’t find herself on it for very long.
Time.com revealed that users only spend about 2.4 minutes on the app before closing it each use. In a similar study, cnn.com reported that about 1.5% of users leave every day.
This was attested by senior Sarah Shultz. “I had the app for a grand total of 5 minutes before deactivating my account,” Shultz stated. “It wasn’t anything new like they promised.”
Shultz admitted that she only downloaded the application due to influence from 2 of her close friends. This is a common theme throughout users. Most who got the app claim that they did not do any research on the app, and the only reason they had it was due to a friend who downloaded it.
Senior Eli Jones mentioned, “I was really looking forward to this revolutionary app, but it bored me so quickly, I deleted it the next day.”
It’s a common theme that the Threads app is not at all what was imagined. The let down of an app will go down in history as amongst the biggest downfall in social media history.
