Leo club stands for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. This club started at Saucon in 2021 when Junior Yashvi Javia learned about the club and started it up at the high school.
“I wanted to start LEO Club my freshman year to do more for our saucon community. I was aware that NHS was a service club, but what about 9th and 10th graders that wanted to get community service hours and volunteer,” said Javia.
Javia has always been actively involved in the school and tries to make the school community better.
“Being a part of LEO Club means teaching other students in my community the value of leadership, experience, and opportunity. Leadership isn’t about personal success, but the impact we make when we serve for everyone. Experience is opening one’s perspective and gaining experience through service projects, meeting new people, and connecting with the Lions Club is what fosters personal growth. Opportunity is taking advantage of your own personal opportunities, as well as providing opportunities for others,” Javia added.
Javia said about what being a part of LEO Club is about. Since LEO Club is about leadership, experience, and opportunity it is no surprise that the advisor of the club is Saucon history teacher, Mario Marcozzi, who is also the advisor for National Honor Society.
“I was approached by four freshmen who wanted to revive the school club. It had not been running for a few years,” said Marcozzi on how he became the advisor for Leo club. He is also very involved in the Saucon Valley High School Community and was very avid about getting the club at Saucon.
“The parent club, Saucon Valley Lions, requires a Lions member to serve as adviser. So I joined the Lions and Leo Club submitted a form with all students interested in becoming Leos. We had our first induction ceremony this past May,” said Marcozzi.
The club has had many successful events already, such as a bake sale to raise money for the club, food drive within Saucon for food, hygiene, and other essentials for students. They hope to be able to do a service project on National Diabetes Awareness in the future.
In the end many people feel like Leo club was a good addition to the variety of clubs at Saucon. It helps students perform services for their school and helps them get involved in the school community.
