Halloween has been a fan favorite holiday for years and is the one time a year people get to eat tons of sugar, and be someone that they didn’t know they could be. The holiday and tradition of Halloween was created around 2,000 years ago, and even better, the tradition of wearing Halloween costumes.
The old tradition of wearing Halloween costumes was made a custom in the late 15th century, when people wore costumes and personified winter spirits, demons, and other creepy crawlers. These costumes were worn to actually ward off evil spirits and create a safe haven in their villages.
“I think that being able to wear Halloween costumes on Halloween is really fun and cute,” said junior Ivy Chi.
In modern times, people don’t really wear costumes to ward off evil demons anymore, but to just have fun, and to go trick-or-treating in their favorite Halloween attire. People also wear all kinds of different costumes as well, not just as evil spirits.
“I was Rainbow Dash this Halloween,” said junior Madison Mingora.
People wear costumes that evoke laughter and excitement instead of fear and anguish. People also wear costumes to express themselves and their inner feelings, and take this holiday as an opportunity to show that.
“I was Uncle Fester, he is very cool. I feel an inner connection with him,” said junior Emma Zellers.
Overall, with the around 70% of Americans participate in Halloween festivities and dress up for Halloween every year. Each Halloween, people seem to enjoy showing off their costumes and not to mention consuming a concerning amount of sugar.
