The annual Powder Puff tournament occurred on November 17th, on the second half of the day before Thanksgiving break. There were a total of five teams; two freshman teams, one sophomore team, one junior team, and one senior team. Each game was 20 minutes long and several games were played to determine who would play in the championship game.
The championship game was played by the sophomore and senior team. The sophomores, undefeated throughout the whole tournament, were the champions.
“The championship game was super fun but also stressful because we really wanted to win and didn’t want to choke like we did last year,” said sophomore team member Tesia Mikuta.
The referees were business teacher Chad Shirk, science teacher, Eric Focht, and gym teachers, Phil Sams and Donna Ellis. While teacher had a different reffing style, it was evident to all teams that they tried their best to be as fair as possible.
“I think the reffing was fair. There weren’t many bad calls and the reffing was equal,” said sophomore team coach, Joseph Petersen.
Although everyone played as hard as they could during these games, there were some players that stood out from the rest of the team.
“I think everyone did really well, but if I had to pick one star player it would have to be Tesia Mikuta. She was really good with running the ball and she was fast,” said coach Petersen.
“I think the star player defensively was Kat and offensively, Clara Whitley and myself. It was a team effort where everyone put in an effort which is what got us to the championships,” said senior Brooke Bleam.
Overall, it was a successful event. The sophomores walked away with the championship, everyone performed their best, and the student body was able to spend the afternoon cheering on their peers. .
