The boy’s basketball team is set to play Mathematics, Civics, and Sciences Charter School this Saturday in district semifinals.
Boy’s basketball prepares for their first match of states. Nerves are high, but can their confidence be enough to take them to a win?
Junior basketball player Jack Robertson has confidence in his teammates. “I am very confident about the upcoming game. I am excited for the game and I do think it will be an exciting game because playoff environments are always fun to play in. I think the team has performed great this season and I think that we still have enough life left in us to make a state run,” said Robertson.
The boys have had an 8-5 record in the regular season, and continue to push on past their tough loss against Executive Academy in the League semifinal to take a win against Panther Valley this past Saturday. They’ve had many nail-biting games this year, but the Panthers have remained resilient. Many are still wondering: Where will this season take us?
Senior basketball player Henry Kreschollek reflects on the thrilling match against the Salisbury Falcons and looks forward to more compelling games. “I am very confident for our upcoming game. I am excited to play in the game as we’ve had three exciting games against them and will definitely provide another thrilling performance. Overall, this season went better than we thought after getting off to a rough start with injury and illness, but although our playoff hopes were definitely tainted in leagues, we are excited to be playing again and to make something happen in the states,” said Kreschollek.
This year’s seniors are hoping to extend their season as long as they can and make the most out of their last year playing. Their success in districts and states is thanks to their hard work in practices and their regular season accomplishments. The competition is fierce, and the anticipation is at an all time high, but the Panthers remain positive.
Senior Jungle leader Kylah Ferguson explained the excitement surrounding the upcoming game. “I think we’re standing in a pretty good spot. The team has been pretty strong this year and as long as they play their best I think we could make it to the finals or semis for sure. Our panthers just have to focus on strong teamwork, great defense, and determination. I think that most games had a pretty solid turn out and everyone was always loud and supportive. I think Jungle Leader Bella Johnstone did a great job of making beautiful instagram posts that really encouraged people to show up and bring their school spirit. And I hope that next year there is an even bigger jungle with even more panther pride!! I think the first districts game is pretty important so hopefully there is a huge turnout with lots of under and upperclassmen! Unfortunately I have to work but I hope to at least support my panthers in spirit!” said Ferguson.
The Jungle is always around to cheer on the team and bring the energy. They have had impressive spirit this year, with themes such as formal night, jersey night, and, of course, red and black night. Saturday’s theme is TBD, but is sure to unite the Jungle to liven up the match. Ferguson and other leaders are hoping for a great turnout tonight and another win for the Panthers!
