Four seniors have come up with a Jungle Constitution to make the student section more effective and school-spirited to support the boy’s basketball team. With leaders realizing that there are less and less people that show up to the sporting events, they sought out a spark to get everyone excited again. Saucon’s student section was always packed and loud, but the past two years have been disappointing and quiet.
With the basketball season coming to an end, senior Constantine Donahue said “The Jungle really wasn’t effective in the beginning of the season but ever since the last home game against Bangor, they really brought the energy that we need to play at our best.” Players’ performance on the court is tied with the amount of support they have; lack of showing up could have a negative effect on the outcome of a game.
Over the course of the season, the basketball team has played many games where the nerves were high. “We need the Jungle to really get into Salisbury’s head to throw them off their game,” commented senior Braden Weiss on the Salisbury game during Districts. The Constitution was implemented at the last home game of the season, and the students have been loud and effective every game, even getting featured on television.
Nearing the end of the school year, Jungle leaders want to make sure the Constitution is continued after they graduate. “I will make sure the Constitution is continued with us. Hopefully the years after us will continue to bring the school spirit,” said junior Zackary Male. Male always shows up with a fiery spirit and strong attitude towards the team.
Looking forward, the Constitution could improve the spirits of the students to keep them more engaged, louder and most importantly represent Saucon in an appropriate manner.
In closing, the four Jungle leaders want to make an impact that will benefit the sports teams and could better the odds of our panthers by distracting the other teams and supporting our fellow classmates. The new Constitution will hopefully accomplish their goals and leave a long standing legacy.
