Year 9 of Rainbow Six Siege has been released with a new operator, Deimos. He’s equipped with a rifle used on other operators and a new handgun that packs a punch.
On top of all the great additions, there were also some not as great ones. They changed how long you have to wait without spending money to get the new operator, and they changed the ADS (aim down sights) time for all optics making gun fights harder. Unfortunately they didn’t change the ranked system, which some players are also conflicted about.
The new operator had always been able to be bought within a week after the season’s release. Now, it’s changed until a month after the operator’s release. The price hasn’t changed but people don’t want to spend extra money just to get the new operator.
“No, it’s just stupid and that’s why this game is losing players,” said sophomore Zachary Banonis when asked if the change was beneficial in any way. This demonstrates the emotions of a lot of players, whether they’ve been playing for a long time or not. It seems as though no one is excited about waiting for an operator or spending extra money to get him now.
The ADS time was changed for the first time in years despite no players having any issues with it previously. The extra change only caused further outrage in the community.
“The only thing I can think of is that it might make it a little more realistic but other than that there’s no reason to change it, it’s only dragging people away from the game,” said senior John Stapleton on what the update did to help the game. He’s not the only one with these thoughts, as many big streamers in the community said something along the lines of his argument.
The final issue that’s now resurfacing from previous seasons is hackers/DDoS attacks, which is when hackers kick opponents out of the game for a free win. In previous seasons this issue has been resolved, but now the charts show that issue has been a lot worse all of a sudden.
“It’s ridiculous, I’m just trying to play a few games before practice and then bam, I’m kicked out halfway through,” said sophomore Tony Salgado on the matter. The attacks are frequent on PC servers and console servers.
Overall, the new update has brought disappointment to many. With the cluster of DDoS attacks, postponing people from getting the new operator, and change in the ADS speed has a lot of the community upset. They should be making changes for the people that play the game instead.
