Two percent, that is the number of actors that make a living in the film industry. The number of Indie films that are profitable is similarly low at ten percent. However these low numbers don’t dissuade my co-producers Chris Hoyt or myself, Adam Clark.
We started working on Hunted over the summer last year. Chris was the one who posed the idea to root the film in Native American culture.
“I have always enjoyed history. We have so much natural history in the area that I was inspired to make a film using some of the interesting mythology,” said junior Chris Hoyt.
In Native American mythology the wendigo is a beast that has a tall and slender body, with the skeleton head of a dear and the jagged teeth and claw as of a carnivore. According to legend the wendigo used to be a man, however in order to quench his hunger, he turned to cannibalism. This in turn gave the man a bloodlust and thirst for human flesh. With each person he ate, the man became more and more monstrous, until eventually he was unrecognizable.
Thus leading into our film, Chris and I decided to structure to plot around this legend by depicting the story of a hunt, between by a man with a struggling with his traumatic military past, and the mythic beast he holds his vendetta against.
The troubled protagonist’s name is John Clawfort, and after a gruesome encounter with the wendigo during his time in the military, he has tirelessly been tracking its scent.
“His search has lead him to a small town in Pennsylvania, where he encounters a man named Colonial Adams, who offers him his first promising chance of capturing the beast.” Says co-writer and co-producer Chris Hoyt.
As Clawfort sets out into the woods bordering this town, the story truly starts to get rolling. His hunt will lead him through a maze of conflicts, plot twists, and new friends, and old demons all winding down to the moment he is face to face with the very thing that tore his life apart. Will he come out on the other side of story, or will he be trapped in the jaws of the beast at the center of it all.

“It’s really going to be an amazing sort film, and a great way to support local students with something their passionate about. Chris and Adam really love film, and I’ve had a blast being part of the cast so far,” said junior and lead actor John Murphy.
