For the past two years, Saucon Valley’s baseball team has won district titles. Should we expect another one this year?
Spring sports at Saucon Valley for the 2023/2024 school year have recently started up earlier this month. Sports that are being offered in the high school include baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and track. These sports schedules are filled with exciting games to support with friends and family. According to the schedules, practice for each of these sports takes place around five to six times a week. Additionally, based on previous years’ performances, there can be different things to expect from each of these sports.
“Girls lacrosse will most likely have a more rough season this year since we lost lots of our seniors from last year, and there are many new players. In our recent scrimmage, we lost 21-0,” said Madi Kares, a junior who is also one of the lacrosse players.
A common reason why some of these sports teams may not perform as well as their previous years is due to the senior players graduating, who seemed to have an impact on the overall wins they had. Another sport that may be impacted by this is the baseball team. For the past two years, the baseball team has won district titles, but many of the players that were on the team at those times have now graduated. Although this year, baseball seems to be doing pretty well so far.
“We had our first track meet on the 19th of March, I also know that the girls and guys lacrosse team had their first game that day too. Baseball and softball had their first game on the 22nd and baseball did pretty well but softball had lost theirs,” said Fabi McCullagh, a junior, and member of the track team.
Each one of the spring sports seems to have one game or meet every week. There is much to look forward to in their schedules. The practices that seem to take place five to six days a week seem to be on average two hours long. It seems likely that there can be up to seven days of practice or longer practice based on the teams’ need for it and depending on the coach.
“Even though our lacrosse practice is two hours long, it doesn’t actually seem to be. It goes by pretty fast and we get a lot done and it helps us a lot. I don’t think that our schedule is that stressful, but there are a lot of games ahead of us so it depends,” said Carolyn Marouchoc, a junior, and a member of the girls lacrosse team.
Many players on these teams are okay with their practice schedule, believing it is necessary to help them perform their best on game day. Some players don’t feel too stressed about their schedules, but since it’s only the beginning of the season, we will have to wait and see.
Overall, there is so much to look forward to this spring season. Baseball and lacrosse are only two of the sports that have so much excitement ahead. The schedules are filled with games and practice, so there is much room and time for improvement among these teams. All of the teams already had their first games in the previous weeks, so keep an eye on the schedules so you can go out and support them!
