On Saturday, September 21, Coopersburg held its annual Coopersburg community day from 10 am to 5 pm in Living Memorial Park. It included all the things to fill up a perfect afternoon. Everything from food, to free music, to gifts for friends and family, to events for all ages. One stand caught the eye of many attendees and hit close to home.
Sean Fitzpatrick, a senior, and his family set up a lemonade stand at Coopersburg Community Day to raise money to help fight childhood cancer. Jillian’s lemonade donated its profits to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to help young kids fight childhood. Fitzpatrick and his family raised $2,221 at community day and hope that with late donations they make up to $2,500.
“It’s a wonderful experience seeing the generosity everyday people are capable of whether it’s donating, spreading the word, or coming back to see us every year because they know how important these issues are and seeing people band together and care about something that you’re a part of is completely indescribable,” said Fitzpatrick.
The Coopersburg community has been occurring since 1992, and there are more than 50 vendors that register every year. Community Day is an annual event to help small businesses to get their products and creations out there. Community Day is a way for people can show off their talents and showcase their works and art.
“Locals love showing off their crafts, their music or art just to share with the community the things they love and care about and the people show up for it and spend the whole day exploring, it’s a sight,” said Fitzpatrick.
Many people come for a fun weekend and to spend time with family and friends. Many churches in the surrounding area sell food for visitors. Community day is one way that locals can show their support for each other and community spirit.
“I do believe community day highlights the bond and care people feel for each other. We have people that after all these years they know us and come to visit like neighbors,” said Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick and his family’s work is truly incredible and such a sight to see. Many visitors were satisfied with a drink of lemonade and the taste of a pretzel, but they truly supported a cause that is far more powerful.
