After an offseason where the Eagles went all in, they acquired star running back Saquon Barkley from rival New York Giants, the Eagles are exactly the opposite of what you expect them to be. Although it’s easy to blame the season’s troubles on the injuries of AJ Brown, Devante Smith and Lane Johnson, it is no excuse for a 2-2 start.
Many fans believe the problem lies with head coach Nick Siranni. “Nick’s a bum, he never settles for field goals and always makes stupid decisions when it comes to the offense as a whole,” said lifelong Eagles fan and Saucon alumni Braden Weiss. The Eagles’s fourth down problems have definitely been a common theme in terms of challenges. Many believe that the Eagles could have easily defeated the falcons had Siranni chosen to take the easy field goal.
The only bright side of this Eagles’ offense has been new acquisition, Saquon Barkley. He has been dominating the run game, second in the league in rushing yards, and towards the top of the leaderboard for touchdowns. “It’s easy to counter the Eagles offense, you’ll look for Saquon and you know that’s where the ball should end up,” said Eagles fan and Saucon alumni Constantine Donahue.
Another dark spot of the Eagles has been their defense, who’s under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Many fans were surprised that linebacker Devin White is yet to see the field after being signed this offseason, one of the Eagles’ bigger moves. Another disappointing player on the defensive side of the ball has been Bryce Huff, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Jets. Huff recorded 10 sacks last year as a member of the Jets, but through the first four games, Huff has recorded two tackles total. “He’s been the most disappointing player in the league, we’re paying him 47 million a year to get put on his you know what,” said Saucon alumni Austin Zolerinz, who’s a life long fan and even runs a fan page.
If you ask me, the problem doesn’t lie with one area of the team, but the team as a whole. I think they need to switch their attitude, get healthy, and get a new mindset after the bye-week. The Eagles need to turn it around this week if they want to make the postseason, and if they don’t, it would be the biggest letdown for the city of Philadelphia in a long time.
