Originating in 1982, the BRIT Music Awards have been widely loved across the globe. In 2025, held at the O2 Arena with a capacity of 20,000, the award show garnered 2.5 million viewers worldwide.
A few awards, in particular, are thought to be the most notable and significant of the BRITs. These awards include the International Song of the Year, International Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Mastercard Album of the Year.
However, the BRITs have gained some attention this year on whether or not the awards were given to the right artists.
International Song of the Year
“Good luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan took home the award for song of the year. While some agreed with the winner, many believed that Billie Eilish should’ve won with her record breaking song, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”.
“That song is just amazing,” senior Jolie DeJonge stated regarding Eilish’s song. “It was a super popular song that everyone listened to,” another senior, Ruby Twardzik, commented. “I listened to it a lot myself,” Twardzik added.
International Artist of the Year
Chappell Roan once again took home the win as the International Artist of the Year. “She became pretty popular in a short couple of months. It’s deserving for sure,” senior Arianna Renninger agreed.
Many seemed to think that Roan was a perfect fit for this award with how quick her rise to fame was and how relevant she has stayed, despite going up against other popular nominees.
Artist of the Year + Mastercard Album of the Year
Charli XCX, who not only won these awards, but took home the most BRIT awards in 2025 for her record breaking album release, “BRAT,” was so influential that the summer of 2024 was even labeled a “BRAT summer”.
“I hear her album every single day. It’s everywhere,” Twardzik noted. “I agree. She definitely had one of her most successful years yet because of BRAT,” DeJonge added.
It’s safe to say that while there are some discrepancies between various students’ opinions, it’s very clear that the actual winners are still beyond deserving.
