What is standardized testing in the United states
A standardized test is any form of testing that has all test takers to answer the same series of questions, usually with a selection of questions, from a common bank of questions, the test is scored in a consistent or “standard manner”, which makes it possible to compare the relative performance of individual student. Although while different types of exams and tests may be “standardized” the term is mostly used with large scale tests that are administered to students.
When assessing students comprehension, understanding, competency, in any particular subject area. Teachers often use may methods such as quizzes, in-school tests but these methods can be subjective. Standardized tests can diminish bias by providing an objective scoring system, everyone in these tests has similar scoring guidelines which ensure fair and accurate results.
Negative impacts of standardized testing
Some students simply do not test well. Many students in schools are negatively affected by testing anxiety, or do not show their learning well on a standardized based test. Many students do not have the adequate ability to learn well simply because of factors beyond their control, a list of factors may be, large class sizes, too many teachers without subject area certification and without many other facilities and resources available. 
How can we improve standardized testing for students.
One of the many ways we can improve standardized tests are to make sure these test align with the schools curriculum and with a student’s learning goals. This ensures that what students Learn in schools is what they will see on tests. If we incorporate multiple testing methods this allows students to have diversification and prevent outdated testing methods.
