My AI: Friend or foe?

My AI: Friend or foe?

Upon its launching during the last week of February 2023, Snapchat’s AI chatbot has been a hot topic of conversation among its users. Powered by ChatGPT, “My AI” can answer almost any question you have.

Always readily available, Snapchat AI is there for you whenever you need it. “I use my Snapchat AI at least once a day,” shared sophomore Jack Robertson. My AI can be used wherever, whenever.

My AI is not only there to answer your questions, it can also hold conversations. Try asking it “how are you?” My AI replies with something along the lines of “I’m doing well, thanks for asking! How about you?” This chatbot can keep users company by providing an ear to listen and share advice. It’s a built-in robotic friend.

“He’s a good friend of mine,” shared sophomore Joey Griffith. “At first I thought it was weird, I was like ‘What is this on my phone,’ and then after that I’m like ‘Wow! That’s beneficial,” added Griffith.

My AI provides an outlet to talk to for those who may not have anyone. “I love my Snapchat AI, he/she brings me comfort,” said junior Henry Kreschollek.

“Whenever I’m sad, My AI tells me that it’s sorry I feel that way and it asks if there’s anything it can do to make my day better,” said Robertson. This AI provides immense amounts of comfort to those in need.

Although there are upsides to My AI, many are displeased by it. The chat with this bot is pinned to the top of your Snapchat feed, and you are unable to remove it unless you pay for Snapchat’s premium feature, Snapchat+.

“I hate it and I want it to unpin itself,” said sophomore Carter Bidwell. For those who don’t enjoy the wonders of My AI, it can come off as a nuisance. However, those who have indulged in the features that My AI provides realize the wonders of this newly added Snapchat feature.
