Student journalists reached out to librarian and teacher Amber Sams. She is the librarian for Saucon Valley High School, runs Friends of Rachel (FOR), environmental club, and the high school reading club.
What made you become a teacher?
I wanted to help people figure out how to answer their own questions and satisfy their own curiosities using the best information out there and understand how to pick out the good information from the bad. This helps individuals be more independent and ultimately makes our society stronger. I also love to read and enjoy helping students find books they will also love.
What is your favorite part of the school day?
Interacting with students, especially if we are talking about books.
What was your favorite subject when you were a student?
Social studies and photography
What is one goal you have for your students this year?
Since I’m currently teaching the class about AI I hope they will understand how it works and the best ways to use it as a supplemental source and not just a replacement for their own thoughts and words.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
There will always be people in your life that may get you down; you can’t control other people’s feelings, just your own, so don’t stress about things you can’t control and focus on yourself.
