Student journalists reached out to teacher Phillip Sams. He is known around the high school for teaching physical education and is a beloved sports coach. His football team, Southern Lehigh, beat Twin Valley 43-21 in 2025, winning the state championship for PIAA 4A division.

1. Do you like your job?

Yes, I do like my job.  The last five years some things have changed, but I still get to be a part of athletics everyday of my life which I love!  I also like seeing people be physically active and enjoy seeing people smile!

2. What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is when I see classes being physically active and enjoying it!

3. What are some of your hobbies?

My number one hobby is being a part of my family’s life!  I enjoy watching them doing what they love to do!  My other hobby is coaching Football!  I love it!!!  I also really enjoy coaching baseball when I have the time.

4. What’s your favorite movie?

I have a lot of movies I love!  My favorite football movie is Remember the Titans and Varsity Blues.  My favorite baseball movie is Moneyball.  I also love Jaws, the original Halloween, John Wick, The Equalizer, the original Point Break, Scary Movie, Step Brothers, Hell or High Water, and several more!

5. What’s your favorite food?

I love unhealthy food.  I know it’s bad for a health and physical education teacher, but moderation is key.  I love wings, chicken quesadillas, cheesesteaks and Sicilian pizza.
