Featured today is one of my favorite murals at Saucon, painted by the talented artists Meghan James, Violet Whitley and Emma Fenstermacher. The mural portrays animals having a party. I had the opportunity to sit down with senior Meghan James and ask her a few questions about her work on this project.
Q: “So what exactly is the mural depicting?”
A: “An animal birthday party.”
Q: “Is there a lot of work that goes into this project?”
A: “There’s definitely a lot of time and work that goes into it.”
Q: “When did you start working on it?”
A: “The start of semester two, we’re almost done with it.”
Q: “What parts of the mural did you work on?”
A: “The wood floors, the flag, I helped with the wall and I did the dance floor and the balloons.”
Q: “What’s your favorite part of the mural?”
A: “My favorite part is the party hats and the chicks. Violet worked on the chicks and Emma and Violet worked on the party hats.”
Q: “What do you want people to take away from your mural as they see it everyday?”
A: “That people can come together despite their differences and they still connect in the same ways.”
My interview with James shows how murals at Saucon are more than just colorful paintings on walls but also a reminder of creativity, teamwork and connection. James, Whitley, and Fenstermac’s hard work helped to turn an ordinary hallway into something fun and meaningful for us all to see and enjoy everyday. Their mural shows that even people who are different can still come together, celebrate, and, create something amazing.
