Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?
A: I really like two things about teaching, especially Tech Ed. First, teaching hands-on content like I do, I get to be creative and see the kids be creative with their projects. I’ve gotten some really amazing submissions to projects over the years from hand-made kitchen tables, to awesome pieces of artwork. The second thing would be seeing my students have the “oh I get it” moment when they learn something new and seeing how happy they get when it clicks for them.
Q: Why did you choose to become a teacher?
A: When I was in high school I was trying to decide what I wanted to do after I graduated like most of you guys are doing now. I had taken a lot of Tech Ed classes in high school because, like I said for the first question, I like being creative and really liked the Tech Ed classes I was taking. The two Tech Ed teachers I had in high school were really helpful in my decision process. I noticed how much they enjoyed teaching and how much I enjoyed being in their classes and it dawned on me then that I could absolutely see myself doing what they were doing for my career.
Q: Would you rather teach in the middle school or the high school?
A: Definitely the high school. Just feels like a better fit for me.
Q: What is your favorite class to teach?
A: Definitely tough to choose but I think I have to pick my Graphics class. I really like Graphic Design and think I would pick that as another career if I couldn’t teach anymore. Editing pictures, drawing logos, and doing graphic layout has always been fun for me and I like seeing how the kids use their artistic abilities to solve the problems in that class.
Q: If you were to have any superpower what would it be and why?
A: Flying without a doubt. I’ve had plenty of dreams where I just lift up and fly around outside and those dreams always stuck with me, plus who wouldn’t want to avoid traffic? The odd thing is, I’m afraid of heights so I don’t know if I would be too terrified to use my own superpower but that would still be the one I would go with.
