The question on whether or not snow days should be replaced by Zoom days has been quite a widely debated topic. Personally, I think that they should not be. This is because it is a much needed break for students and staff—especially when their lives can get stressful at times at work or school.
There are some pros and cons of replacing snow days with Zoom meetings and online classes. For example, a few of the pros are that the school can give their students a longer summer break and make sure they can learn while not at school. But some of the cons are that learning at home can create a distracting and uneasy environment for students to learn and some teachers believe that true learning must happen in person and not behind a screen. Both a pro and con, Zoom days are easier than regular school days because most classes are shorter and teachers assign less work.
These types of changes could impact students and staff in both positive and negative ways. Some people would be upset that they can’t have off, but others may be looking at the positives and thinking it’s nice they all get to see each other without being there in person. Either way, not everyone would be happy if every school on earth made changes such as this.
All this aside, while not every school has made the switch, some have since the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot of other schools recently decided to switch from traditional snow days to Zoom days. Many more schools in the future may think that it could be something new to try and follow in these other schools’ footsteps and make the switch. But as of right now, most schools are still doing snow days.
