Over the years Saucon has had successful years of football leading to fantastic playoff runs and a wonderful homecoming game. In the school year of 1960 the football team won 7 out of 8 games proving to have a very successful season. In the school year of 2020 the team won 7 out of 10 games. Both years the Panthers continue to prove why Saucon is one of the best athletic schools in the Lehigh Valley.
Between both years, Saucon has beaten Bangor and Pen Argyl, proving their strength against the coal region. In addition between the years Saucon has played many different schools including, Nazareth, Wilson West, Wilson Borough, Wilson (current), Coplay (Whitehall), Parkland, East Strousbourg, Pen Argyl, Bangor, Southern Lehigh, Salisbury, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Notre Dame, and Palisades to just name a few.
Saucon continues to have a thriving football team as they just had their first home playoff game in 7 years.
In comparing and contrasting both teams, we can see that Saucon has remained about the same. We beat Pan Argyl in both 1960 (13-0) and 2020 (24-7), and we did the same against Bangor, with 19-18 1960) and 28-21 in 2020. In 1960, Wilson Area High School used to split into two schools: Wilson-West Lawn and Wilson Boro. We can see that we beat Boro (20-0) in 1960 but lost against West Lawn (12-20) the same year. However, we beat them again in 2020 (29-26).
In conclusion, using data and information gained from old yearbooks, we can see that Saucon has remained about the same through the years. Though football may change and new schools may be built, Saucon Valley’s football team will always be amazing.
