The rule changes for the F1 2026 season are not limited to just this year. Cadillac is entering F1 as the 11th team for the 2026 season, led by Graeme Lowdon. It is one of two new teams joining this season.
Cadillac signed a contract with former Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez, a veteran who was released by Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season. Pérez has jumped between four different teams throughout his career—including Sauber, McLaren, Racing Point and Red Bull.
The second driver to be signed is Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas, who has much experience in F1 and has been racing on and off for about 12 years. Bottas has been a part of three teams throughout his career, including Williams, Mercedes and Alfa Romeo/Kick Sauber.
Both drivers are very experienced, with a combined total of 16 wins, 23 pole positions, 106 podiums, 333 points finishes and around 2,800 points. Each has been driving in F1 for more than 10 years, which could prove beneficial for the new and rising Cadillac team.
Cadillac plans to build their own engine—a very difficult task for the staff within the organization. However, they plan to use Ferrari supplied gearboxes and engines for the first few years of their tenure in F1.
