Every year students choose a handful of their peers to represent them on the Homecoming Court. The stereotype seen in movies is that the court is always driven by popularity, but in reality, is not the only factor.
This year the court consisted of 12/14 students that were on a team in the fall. For the boys, Prince Aris (Football), Oli Blachnio (Soccer), Constantine Donahue (Football), Jeffery Holzbaur (Golf), and Henry Kreschollek (Marching Band) were part of teams this fall season. The girls on a fall team were Katherine Dalessio (Volleyball captain), Kylah Ferguson (Tennis), Ava Kriner (Volleyball), Amya Rivera-Soto (Volleyball), Paige Rosenberger (Cheer), Ashley Rostkowski (Field Hockey captain), and Izzy Zellers (Marching Band).
For some of these students, they are very involved throughout school events. “I am involved in school events. I attend sporting events, have involvement in clubs, and participate in musical programs at Saucon,” said senior Ashley Rostkowski.
In addition, students can be involved in their sports teams. “I am a two-way starter on the football team, and am a leader on the team,” said senior Constantine Donahue.
Finally, leadership can be found out of school. “I am involved in volleyball and participated in Minithon. I am a leader out of school by helping others, standing up for what is right, and spreading positivity to others,” said senior and Kutztown University commit Katherine Dalessio.
Sometimes being on a team sport can be a integral factor to being awarded a position on homecoming court. “I think being on a team may have factored into who voted for me, because I have spent years with those people and have built relationships with them,” concluded Rostkowski. “Possibly. I think maybe the girls that I’ve played volleyball with could have factored in to who voted for me,” added Dalessio.
There are many perks to being on a team or club of some sort. It keeps you involved with the school, introduces you to new people, can be a boost of confidence, offers leadership positions, etc. With that said, if you are looking to be on homecoming court in the following years, it is important to consider the influence being involved with teams or clubs has on the minds of our student voters.
