The Toronto Blue Jays have signed reigning KBO MVP Cody Ponce to a three-year, $30 million contract.
Ponce is coming off a standout season with the Samsung Lions, posting a 1.98 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 187 strikeouts in 176 innings.
He led the league in opponent batting average at .205 and issued only 23 walks, giving him one of the best strikeout-to-walk ratios in the KBO.
Scouts highlighted his improved fastball, now sitting 94–95 mph, along with a sharper cutter that became his main swing-and-miss pitch.
The Blue Jays believe his adjustments overseas will translate smoothly back to MLB, giving the rotation a reliable and high-upside arm.
Toronto GM Ross Atkins says, “Cody showed remarkable growth overseas, and we believe his pitch mix and competitiveness make him an ideal fit for what we’re building.”
Ponce expressed excitement about joining the team, saying, “Korea helped me grow as both a pitcher and a person, and I’m ready to bring everything I learned to Toronto. I can’t wait to get started.”
For the Blue Jays, the move adds important rotation depth as they aim for a postseason return.
